It’s that time of year again, where Pantone introduces the Color of the Year. Pantone forecasts trends in the fashion world, home furnishings, industrial design, as well as product packaging and graphic design. The floral industry looks to these industries for inspiration and trends.
Let me introduce you to this year’s color, Classic Blue. The color blue symbolizes loyalty, wisdom, trust, confidence, faith, truth and heaven. Blue produces a calming effect and a sense of tranquility.

Classic blue is the perfect addition to your wedding. Perhaps it’s a small accent to your special day, your main color or its the time honored tradition of something old, something new, something borrowed, “something blue”. The something blue stands for love, purity and fidelity. These are three key qualities for a solid marriage.
Let’s look at some blue blooms to hold for your wedding day. While we might be somewhat limited with blue flowers, there are other ways to incorporate blue into your day. There’s always the ribbon, perhaps candles, what about your dishware or napkins? We can get a little more creative with decorative wire or even your ceremony backdrop. You’re only limited by your imagination.
If you have your heart set on adding blue flowers to your wedding let’s consider the following. A popular flower in any wedding is the hydrangea, these big blooms give you a nice full look and not to mention the shades of blue they come in a range from light blue to a more shocking blue.

A favorite of mine is the blue thistle. They have a very distinct shape and is the perfect addition for something a bit more memorable.

Perhaps you want a more striking flower, then you should consider using delphinium within your wedding design. Even though your options are limited, these blue flowers will make a beautiful statement on your wedding day.
Let’s get your imagination going. Will you be incorporating blue into your wedding?
